Philosophy & Approach
A goal of counseling is to help the client grow, develop, and change in ways that they may not have been able to do on their own. My role as a counselor is to help the client through this process of change by offering my expertise and providing a safe, nurturing environment in which change may occur. I use a cognitive-behavioral perspective and offer an eclectic set of techniques in addressing the cognitive and emotional needs of my clients. Together we will explore your various alternatives and their potential outcomes. However, your decision to change and the consequences of your choices are your responsibility.
As a client, you are in complete control and may end your relationship at any point. If you feel the process with me is not beneficial to you or you are in any way confused or uncomfortable with our counselor-client relationship please mention this to me. I will be glad to discuss it with you and clarify any difficulties. If you feel counseling is successful and that you are ready to terminate our relationship, please bring this to my awareness. We have a professional relationship, not a social one, and our contact will be limited to the sessions you will arrange with me.
If I cannot maintain a safe environment for you or, due to my lack of expertise or personal issues cannot meet your apparent needs, I will end the therapy relationship and refer you to more appropriate resources.
